Default Drag setup for a mild 400?

Same here, Im running the fat washer that came with the 10-58s kit. Then I went back to 55s. I always thot that the washer was there to get the old washer off of the bushing in the cover. Hmmmm...
U da man Bub. Knowledge is power!

Now I have to say that it is better to run the large washer with the s weights instead of the small washer with the 10 series. It will have a higher engagement with the s- series and the large washer, but will tend to have a harsher and erratic engagement.

Beltdrive, next time you go mud racing put the stock weights back in it. I think you'll find that it will scream through the mud much better. By the way, I have one of the large washers if one of you guys need it. Let me know.Bubba

Bubba thats what I have in it now (s-55) I have the brown primary spring in it also. It seemed to over rev on hard pack with the red/yellow and s-55 weights. Maybe it was just in my head. Do you think I would be better off with the red/yellow primary with the s-55 weights for the mud race. Do you think it would be worth changing the secondary to the 1-1 position for the race. I have the large washer that came with my hpd kit, it is the stock washer that I don't have. I just bought a tach to tune with but I won't have it installed before Sat. and that is the day of the mud race. Thanks Bubba

The stock weights and brown spring is what I run in my wife's wheeler also. When we go riding in the sand I put the red/yellow in it to help with the load of the sand. The red/yellow with stock weights and the 1-1 could be good, but you want as much backshift as you can get. I would go with the red/yellow just because the mud really pulls them down. With porting it would be best to be a little over top rpms instead of under. If it pulled down the motor just a bit you would be at max power instead of falling off quite a bit.

bubba i got a hpd gold in the mail today I was thinking about using the gold primary with the 10-58 weights and 1-1 secondary. do you think this will work good? I'm worried about over reving it with the s-55's

Thaanks Bubba, I will give the red/yellow spring s-55 weights and secondary at 2-2 a try. I will let you know how it works out.

I run the red/yellow with the S-55 in mine and it works excellent. I have the secondary in the 2-2. I accelerates and backshifts really well. I'm thinking that the sand and mud pull the motor down about the same.

Also, Bubba my dealer gave me a loaner drive clutch to test and all the vibration was gone and went all day without shredding a belt. So I ordered me a new drive clutch. He kinda had a feeling that it might not work but was wanting to try anyway. So he gave me back the labor charge and gave me a good deal on a new clutch. Great Shawn, I knew that had to be the problem. One helpful suggestion is to use the original type belt to keep clutch wear down. You're liable to find some hidden power there.

Scrambler, you will have to run the 58 weights to get close to the power range of the pipe. You might find that to work pretty darn well though. I dont think I tried that combo before, but that's what helps everyone here, testing and tuning.
