Sportsman 700 EFI fuel pump problem

I've read about some Sportsman 700 EFI having some problems with engine stalling, after experiencing the type of problem myself. Fortunately and thanks to this forum, I has able to be "aware" to this problem.

I've had a second "stall" this weekend and talked to dealer. It seems it's becoming a common problem. They are replacing the fuel pump (and tank).

Did any of you with same problem know if the changed something else? Was there need for software update?

My dealer doesn't have the EFI diagnose software from Polaris, and according to them it's not a "must". Do you know if that's true?

Thanks for any help.

the software is not a must, BBUUUUTTTTT, it saves the customer a lot of coin if u got it.

the stall problem, dont be concerned if u got it and have had the tank/pump assembly replaced

newer pumps in all new tank assembleis...
not to worry about at all

1 in like 1000 efi bikes acted up, pretty good if u ask me.

my efi did the stall thing as well.....they replaced the fuel pump...computer tps...crank sensor...still acted up...ended up being the crank had half inch of play....and that inturn started chewing a hole through the side of the motor......so polaris sent me a brandly new motor last week...well not me my dealer ahahah but i have it back now and put over a 160 miles on b/t friday night and sunday morning....and it worked great

BUTTTTT i wouldnt worry thats going to happen to you....according to my dealer and polaris...they have only seen this twice.....out of every 700 built efi and non efi.....so thats pretty good numbers....i suppose...

But usually for the stalling issue just a tank and pump replace is good id say

as for the software......what i have been told its not nessacery, because you can pull codes thru the diag on the machine...the only thing the software does is tell you the code (which u can get your self) but it also explains the problem and the steps to take it.......thats just what i have been told....dont know if they were blowing smoke or what....

But the way i feel.....is that if a dealer is goin to sell a certain model...they should have all the tools to take every nut and bolt apart...and be able to replace any sensor, or do any special work that may need a special tool........but that just my opinion

Mine never stalled out so my problem might be a little different.. It simply went into a limp type mode at startup. This is my Thread

Yeah.. My electric fuel pump died as well.. It ran for awhile then died out and wouldnt start. Smacked the tank with my hand and got it running long enough to get me home.. That happend at 10 miles...got that replaced and so far I have been really happy with everything.. I put on 200 miles this last weekend. Time for the break-in oil change tommorrow. I am trying to get at least 500 miles on this thing before the snow hits and I wont want to be outside. I figure if anything else major is gonna puke out, it will do it in the next 500 miles or so. My factory warranty runs out in jan....dont want to buy an extended warranty....The only thing I can see being a problem in the future is this black plastic is gonna get dull really quick. I might think about buying the blue and gray plastic for a non efi..

I heard from my dealer the bad fuel pumps were primariy in the very early build #s and that there should not be any new ones with them. Something about the vendor who made them and they had defective brushes.

I don't know the cut off time frame, but my 'gut' feeling would be you are past the troubled area.

Thanks everyone.
I'm waiting for fuel pump/tank replacement. Let's see how it behaves after that.
