Won't rev high in neutral but will in gear
Ok, this is really freaky. I have riden it and it was just fine the past couple of days, it just started doing this today. It is a 98 Polaris Xpress 300 2x4, still has the origional 30mm mikuni carb but the engine was rebuilt a couple of months ago. When you start it up (in neutral) you can rev low, but if you gun the gas it doesn't rev up like its supposed to, it just goes up to like you were barely pushing it but it growls a lot more than it should and smokes a little more than usual. The engine doesn't rev up high though. If you put it in gear and go, it will rev fine and go up high and all. Any thoughts? This is driving me nuts and I don't want to risk screwing it up if it is still not running quite right even if it will rev up in gear.
Or is this a feature I was just unaware of that keeps you from too high of reving when you first start the atv? |

My 500 has a rev limiter. Maybe it is the same on yours.

OK, thanks. I guess that is probably it, something to keep somebody from thinking they are in gear and gunning it while its still cold ... I dunno, but I rode it a while today and it runs just fine after you put in gear the first time so I am not going to worry about it.
Just ordered a complete set of Titan 489xt's, picked up a $50 2000 lb. Chicago Electric Winch from Harbor Freight, and ordered a mount plate for it. I'll post reviews on these when I get it all on this coming week. Btw, what's the best way to get rid of bad scratching and scuffing on your plastic? Just a polishing compound? Anyway ... thanks. |

use soap and water to get as much dirt out of the scratches as possible.....then you can use Pledge to restore the color and any other oily product makes it look real nice....WD40 or Armorall both good things..
