Are Polaris's Reliable
Well, I've had three Polaris 2-strokes. A '93 250 Trailboss, a '95 Sport 400 and now a '98 Xplorer 400 and they have all been great! The only issue I've ever had was the starter on the '93 due to poor maintenance by the previous owner.

I think they are very reliable. I use my sportsmans every day for ranch work and some weekend trail rides with very little problems. I have over 9000 miles on two sportsmans with geneal maint. and one new drive clutch. I have never owned anything other than polaris atv's so I can't comment on how they compare but I'm very happy.

i have a 97 sport thats getting pretty old but still runs great i took it about 15 miles yesterday and the only prob was my fault...
i think the 250s are some of the most reliable polaris atvs made the motor design is simple so theres not alot of moveing parts to go bad and the motor is limited on HP so it doesnt stress out the rest of the components of the bike either like the clutchs belt and chain.. over all they are a great bike to start riding and wrenching on. it will get you more comfortable with riding and maintaining a quad "maintenance is the key to a long life on any motorized vehical"... |

They can be reliable, and are getting better, but in the past well, it is another story. I know some people had no issue with their Polaris, but I know more that did (don't want to start another fight).

Were they, no. Are they now, pretty much. Not really any worse on the whole as any other manufacturer.
