TreeFarmer,I noticed another post where you said the T1500 and ATV2000 had similiar, if not the same internal parts. Does this mean I can put a 50 foot cable on my t1500 and it should pull like a t2000???

DaBoss, to the best of my knowledge and belief, the T1500 and ATV2000 have identical motors and geartrains. The only differences I'm aware of are: the longer cable and the standard internal spring brake on the ATV2000. If you have a rocker switch with an orange dust cover top half and a black bottom half with your T1500, I would think the wiring is identical also; even if you have a rotatry switch, the two winches should pull the same.

The spools are the same size, you can certainly install 50 feet of cable on your T1500 if you want to.

Treefarmer, Just a quick note for future reference. Today while in my shop I had a brand new ATV 2000 and an ATV1500 winch sitting side by side. (I am installing them for customers) While normally I wouldn't have taken the time to check or question your normally accurate information, I happened to notice that the ATV2000 is physically larger. I then took out a tape and measured and found that the 2000 is !/2 inch longer. (Motor Portion) The diameter of the motor and the spool assembly are all identical. So I then took out the old manuals and started comparing numbers. The ATV2000 is rated for .67 HP....118 amps draw @ 2000# load and the ATV1500 is rated at .45 HP....90 amps@1500# load. Not wanting to open up and comprimise the sealing integrity of either unit I could only guess that possibly the permanent magnets and armature are slightly longer in the ATV2000.

Trailboss 450, you make perfect sense, except:

The ATV1500 is a model distinct from the T1500. The original ATV1500 had no freespool clutch, and a different motor from the current production T1500 (the latter has a 0.67 hp motor). The dimensions of these two models may vary also. Check and see if your ATV1500 has a freespool clutch or not. I bought my ATV1500 in 1978; that winch is in service today (mounted on a friend's King Quad).

The products Superwinch manufactures today, the ATV2000 and the T1500, are identical except: The ATV2000 has an internal spring brake standard; the ATV2000 has 50 feet of wire rope spooled instead of the 25 feet of the T1500, and the ATV2000 rocker switch is shipped with dust covers, while the T1500 switch is "nude." The physical dimensions of these two models are the same.

Howdy Tree Farmer, I know this is an old subject but while cleaning out my shop today I ran across a manual from my old T1500 winch. The ATV2000 is definately longer than the T1500. The difference is in the motor portion only. I checked part numbers in the break down pictures and everything is the same except the motor housing and armature. Also they have dimesions on the pictures and if I remember correctly the 2000 is 1/2 inch longer. If you want me to I can scan them and e-mail to you.

Trailboss450, you mention an "old" T1500--how old? I fully believe the older T1500 you have is different in size from the models in current production.

According to the Superwinch "Product Guide 2000," and in conversations with Jack Jolley, Chief, Superwinch Customer Service, Superwinch ATV2000 and T1500 models in current production today have identical physical dimensions and use the same motors and geartrains.

Superwinch changed its electric motor vendor about a year or so ago. Prior to that time, the production ATV2000 and T1500 may indeed have featured different motors and dimensions, as your manual indicates.

I owned a 1978-model ATV1500 (not a T1500) winch; its dimensions were probably different from the current T1500; also, the ATV1500 had no freespool clutch, while the current T1500 incorporates this feature.

Superwinch apparently maintains the same model designations for upgraded products. For example, the current ATV2000/T1500 winches tested stall pulls of 2400 # after 9 hours continuous operation while totally submerged.

Well I stand corrected then. The manual on the T1500 was printed/revised on 10-17-97. The manual from the ATV2000 was printed 6-10-99. This probably explains the confusion. I didnt know about the vendor change. I probably better stick to mounting them and forget about the specifics of horsepower and stall speed and leave those
decisions to the customer.
I have a brand new Rubicon In the shop I have to fabricate an aluminum mount for and install a Warn 2500. They dont give you a lot of room to work with. I wonder if the owner would understand if I maybe took it out this weekend and did a little real world "field testing" myself to determine actual stall speed...........?????

The aluminum winch-mounting plate sounds like a good idea; I'm surprised no commercial lightweight plates are on the market (to my knowledge).

Hmmmmmmmm. Business opportunity? Besides the rather crude and austere steel plates available, using investment casting techniques, a creative manufacturer could produce some mounts solving the space problems of hard-to-fit quads, like those with inconveniently-located radiators and so on. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
