Carlisle PXT's, trying to decide what to do...

I've got 3 sets of tires, the stock 26" Polaris (Carlisle) PXT's, 27" Mud Lites on 5C's and 27" 589's on 5C's....

so anyways, I just my stock tires/wheels back on, trying to decide whether to sell them or keep them....I like the ground clearance of the 27" tires, and the mud performance...but I only ride part of the time in mud and not really deep stuff....

The stock tires look little compared to the 27's, even though they're only and inch shorter....the front definitely looks different as the stock tires are much narrower than the Mud Lites or 589's.....

I really like the ride on the PXT's....wish they made them alittle wider on the front end and in 27". What does everyone think? Anyone have any tires that perform well all-around...in 27"?

I was thinking of going with Big Horns for my replacement tire ... i like the 589's alot, but think it will be alittle rough on hard packed trails. Are the PXT's radials? and i think they do make them in 27"??

what are you saying the mudlites are not a good all around tire? I like the lugs on the bearclaws and the swampwitch tires too.

the Mud Lites are 'okay' all-around tires....the larger tires come with the deep tread, the way the lug spacing is on them, they work okay all-around, but there are better tires like the PXT's...

Also, I haven't seen Carlisle PXT's for sale anywhere other than coming on the Polaris machines, Carlisle does not have them listed on their website...

A friend of mine has Bighorn Radials on his grizzly and loves them, but they're heavy....although I've read many threads in other forums that say they have a serious problem with ride/balance and wobble bad....

heard that they fixed the balance problem on batches that came out after dec 2004. The mud lites i heard about the same from others ... good all over tire but nothing special.

Just to clarify what I said above, the Mud Lites are great tires if you ride alot of soft/wet/muddy terrain. The perform 'okay' on hard pack. The work great in soft/wet/muddy conditions....

for here in New Mexico, just looking for something different....

good to know about the BigHorns....i'll get some weights on them and see how they do....

The Polaris/Carlile PXT is also sold under another name for use by other manufactures, i think A.C.
I can't remember the name for the tire right now.

I looked at them on the ITP new products page, still only made in the 26" tires...

since the 26" pxt's are made for your bike and the front end has been widened for
2005, I'd stay with the stock tires.. they're the best oem tire/rim combo of any
manufacturer and will give a better overall ride than the mudlites or 589's..
The 26' tires are an improvement over the 25' tires put on these bikes as standard
just a couple of years ago..
Since it sounds like you don't get much mudding in with your quad, the pxt would
be an outstanding overall tire..
This would be an easy decision for me(unless I lived in the swamps of Louisiana
and mudded every weekend)...plus you'll have the added advantage of the
stock tires not sticking out further than the plastic and giving u a mudbath
everytime you get into mud. just my .02.
