Lifter noise on 700's

Does anyone ever have lifter noise on there 700? Every know and then mine has some loud lifter noise and I think the lifters are not staying pumped up like the are floating. I think I might use a different oil & weight when I change it.

I always notice valvetrain noise with the twins I've owned... but yours may be louder now-refer to the install instructions that came with
your hotcams camshaft you just installed. What oil are you using know that the cam is broken in??? I've always used the polaris
0w-40 oil, except for once I used mobil 1 0w-40 oil. I did hear once that it is not a good idea to use automotive oil in your atv as
it has a lot of other unecessary additives in it... but I figure if it's good enough for porsche... well anyway, if it comes and goes in
loudness, and your using the correct oil, I'd call and check with hotcams.

The Hot cams directions said I would have more noise with the cam. This noise it like when a lifter bleeds down and it makes a loud tinking sound. After about a minute the loud tinking is gone and that tells me the lifter is pumped back up.

Oh yea I use polaris 0w 40 oil. I noticed when I used the 10w 40 nonsynthetic oil to break the cam in my motor was quiet.

When did it start to make the noise? Is it only at idle, or any engine speed? Makes you wonder about the oil though... I guess I would still be contacting hotcams for their ideas... You'd think they would have thoroughly tested that set-up before selling it and maybe they
ran accrossed the same thing. I always worry about replacing a cam but not the lifters. And I'm also sure they wouldn't have made a
special note in the install instructions about extra "noise" if it wasn't obviously louder... It's a much more aggressive profile, meaning it is forcing the valves open faster, so it could very well be collapsing your lifters at low rpms as well. All polaris manuals say to not let the
engines idle for long periods due to lack of oiling at lower rpms... so if it only happens at idle, It may be normal for the new cams
profile. I hope not, but don't be afraid to call Hotcams. They should provide you with some technical assistance, as you have been
a lot of free advertising for them so far! Let us all know what you find out.

Lifter noise on 700's

I started make this noise a couple weeks ago. I got up one morning jumped on the 700 and was riding down the rode at about 40mph and noticed it ticking louder. So I stop and turned around shut it off and started it back up and it was still ticking. I started back to the house real slow and and the ticking stopped. I was playing with the jetting yesterday and was seeing how good it was taking off the line. I was doing hi range wheelies and after I did the last one I was going around 40mph again and it started ticking again. I let it idle for about a minute and the ticking stopped. I think I'll take your advice and call Hot cams and see what they say. I don't think its the cam but maybe a weak lifter.
