250 TB Throttle problem
#1
Hello to All!
I am new to the forum and in need of some proffesional assistance. I recently purchased a brand new Yamaha Grizzly 660 and I love it. My wife also loved it and wanted a four wheeler of her own but did not want a brand new one! So I bought her a used 1998 trailblazer about two weeks ago. This thing ran perfect untill I decided to putt my little boy around my yard on it last night. As I was riding I noticed it was starting to bog down right when I pushed the throttle, after a few seconds it would pick up where it left off. I took my son off and rode one lap around my house then all of the sudden it opened up I thought it was going to blow the motor I tried to turn it off (no luck) I tried the kill switch (still no luck) I grabbed the choke and she finally died. I took the throttle cover off and the front cover exposing the wiring and began to investigate. It seems that the ETS when pushed makes the bike throttle wide open not hte other way around like it should be. If I unplug any of the wires (except the kill switch or headlight wires) it goes wide open again. I stopped by the Polaris dealer and chatted with two of the mechanics and they had never heard of such a problem??? Any ideas on what it could be or who I can talk too that might have any ideas on this probem are greatly appreciated!

Hey psycho1,
I would pull the carb out and keep the throttle cable attached. I would then work the throttle lever to see if the slide in the carb is getting stuck. Make sure the slide is free from dirt and that the needle is going down into the needle seat. This is a place to start. Let me know what you find.

Thanks tmzg29,
I found the problem or at least narrowed it down. I unplugged the yellow and red wire from the CDI to the terminal board and the bike ran perfect, so it is either the rev limiter or the CDI regardless I have found the problem. Thanks for your help though I worked on it for about three hours last night and had given up hope. after a breath of fresh air I tried it again. Success!!
