how do you get a rear cv shaft out of a 700?

I am in the process of taking my cv shaft out from the rear of my 700 sportsman, I have the axle nut off and the hub off along with the complete lower control arm assm. all that's left is to pull the shaft out from the rear diff. and it won't come out, I have tried a prybar and a thick screwdriver. any tricks I should know about from anyone who has replaced a shaft/cv?

In my manual it says to pull sharply outward. I usually use a prybar .

I use a short piece of 1/4 inch chain fastened on the axle and attached to a slide hammer, a couple of good wacks should do it

I tried a prybar somewhat but it doesn't fit behind the shaft very well. I guess I'll try giving it another shot and try a few other things as well. thanks for the replies.

A straight pull with a slide hammer is best, if it won’t come out with the “sharp pull” method. You may get lucky with a pry bar but unless you use two (on behind each side of the CV cup) you may force the splined stub to one side or the other, making it more difficult to extract.
