Those of you that own or have experience with the 2005 Sportsman 700 EFI what are your thoughts? I'm considering getting one.

The 700 is great. As you can see by my signature, I have a few to compare it to.

The throttle response is great. It has lots of power for trail riding and just about any job. Great stock tires. It is a bit heavy, but that is what many like about Polaris. They are built very solid and tough. If you want a sportier ride, this is probably not the best machine. The Sportsmans ride like a luxury car because of a very well designed suspension.

Of course, having EFI, you don't have to re-jet for elevation (if that is even a concern).

A little larger fuel tank would be nice, but other than that, no complaints. The machine does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it well.

I've had one for 4 months & have nothing but good things to say about it. It has 300 miles on it so far with no problems whatsoever. We took it to Colorado in July & the EFI performed flawlessly up to 14,000 ft. The only thing that takes some getting used to is the slop sound that seems to come from the clutch. When I first got it , I thought the thing was put together wrong & was fixin' to crater or something but after reading several threads on here & talking to the dealer about it I learned that it's normal. I still don't like the sound but I'm slowly getting used to it.

i had problems with the boots on mine. the stock boot gaurds sit right against the boots so if you play in creeks or mud it will push against the boots and rip them. i tried strong made stick stoppers and they trapped debree so i was still having problems. maybe if you could off set the stock gaurds and leave the bottom open it would be ok. runs great and rides great. i think i just got a lemon butt they are a lot of people in here having boot problems on the 05 models. and no drog im not bashing just posting my experience with the one i had.

I've been very happy with the three we have. The only issue I've seen is there is a hole in the headlight housing (2 lower lights) about 3/4th of the way up that is covered with a type of tape that can peel off or come lose. This will allow water to enter the headlight housing and short out the bulb (esp. when your hosing the mud off). I have siliconed all these small ports closed and solved the problem. We are loading ours up today to head off bow hunting. Man am I pumped! These bad boys have done everything we've asked of them.

Earthbound, where is the holes in the lamps? I looked at my 05 700 efi and did not see it? I would like to silicone them.

They are in the housing... about 3/4th the way up. Look for a yellow sticker above the hole where the lamp goes. By the way, it's easy to remove the entire housing to work on them. They just press into place.

So what are your thoughts now? Have you had any more torn boots?

havent had a whole lot of time to ride it, due to the fact it is at my dads, which is two hours away. I am more of a sport person myself, and I am use to being able to slide the quad and have lighter streeing....so I am not a fan of it. The power is great yes. I still think the seat is too wide...but like I said, I havent had alot more time on it since then. and just out of curiosity, what will you be using it for?
