How does this work?

On my '05 sp 500 every time i let go of the thumb throttle my machine sputter and die, at first i had thought that the idle was to low, it has about 360 miles on it so i adjusted it to around1250-1300 and it still dies. Cleaned air filter put in new plug still no change, if i push on the throttle just enough to take out the slack just before it grabs the cable it runs perfect. So i took off the cap on the thumb throttle and found that there are 2 metal contacts with wires and it only dies when the contacts touch. I guess my question is what are these contacts for , can this be adjusted or can it just be pulled out. It is still under warranty.

Thanks for your help!!

This system is called an ETC or electronic throttle control, it is used when the cable would become stuck your machine will kill so you dont get into an accident... to fix this problem there is a small rubber cover on your throttle cable just before your head unit, slide this apart and adjust it until there is little or no free play in your throttle and that will fix your problem

yep, just reduce slack in your throttle cable. That system is so if your throttle cable or lever froze the machine would cut out when you released the throttle. Not a good idea to override.
