Default How do I pull a cyclone engine/clutch???

I pulled the cover off the centrifugal clutch today so I can pull the motor and trans out of the frame. I don't see how the belt drive comes off the crank. I pulled the long bolt out of the center and I can see that the center piece has threads onto the outter diameter of the shaft. With that long bolt out, does the whole thing come straight out off the shaft? or what? Anyone have the PDF repair manual that I can check out?

You will need a clutch puller. It is a tapered fit and it won't come off unless you have one. You can however make a makeshift one that will work in a pinch. Put a 3" 3/8 in. drive extension in the hole that the bolt came out of and then buy you a 3/4 bolt with fine threads I believe and tighten it untill the drive clutch pops off. I personally could never make this work. I had to buy the clutch puller. I know of guys that do it all the time though. If you do it this way just be sure not to mess up the threads on the crank.

I'd just go to www.hpd-inc.com and look for the clutch puller....it is pretty cheap, and very useful. If you do use the bolt idea or the puller....sometimes I had to tap on the puller with a hammer(brass if using the puller so you don't screw it up).......to loosen it up as I put pressure on it......when putting the clutch back on.....take some emery paper and clean off the shaft..and possibly add a little never seeze.

Thanks for the help guys. I have to be home to sell a car tonight, but might swing over to the quad when I'm done with that if time permits. I'll give the extension a try since it's already available to work with. I'll check out the other site and take a look at the puller. Thanks for the tips for the reinstall as well.

Default How do I pull a cyclone engine/clutch???

Well, I finally made it back over to the quad today after 'work' and checked the clutch again. I called the local dealer and they told me they had the puller in stock. Naturally I go there and they have some type of modified vice grips. I have no idea what the guy was thinking. I asked for the service dept and then walked over to chat with them about what the threads were, if they have a tool we could see or measure... they HAVE a tool.. yet, it wasn't in the building. weird. Just happened that they just finished working on a trail blazer so I could show them the clutch and what I was trying to do. They showed me the tool in the parts book. Spiffy. Went back to the garage and looked around. Found the center bolt from a puller for something like a harmonic balancer.. fit the clutch... threaded a bolt into the crank and then the smaller rod and then the bolt... turned it, heated it, whacked it... clutch off.

Tomorrow I'll head over again and pull the motor out of the frame and start the final prep for paint. The new piston/crank will be here monday and tuesday. Hopefully next weekend will have the cyclone all back together. Weeeeeeeee
