pull start problem
#1
When I use the pull start on my 04 Sp 500 it doesn't roll back into the casing. I did just drain the recoil using the plug on the bottom and there was quite a bit of water in there. Do you think it might be starting to rust in there? Should I pull the whole thing apart and check? If it is starting to rust what should I use on it? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I just had to do mine , it was stuck really bad .
Its very easy to do , take off the cover and remove it , believe it or not this thing works with grease , without it ,...it wont move.
After taking the bolts off and recoil hosing cover completely off...............
Remove the center bolt from the friction plate , it will all come apart after that , you will see a ratchet pawl and a spring , grease everything including the friction plate , then wind it all back up as usual and reinstall. When you take it apart , remember how it looks and put it back together the same way , it took me about 45 from start to finish.
PS. only tighten the friction plate to 5 - 6 foot pounds of torque , any tighter and it will not wind back up.
Good Luck.
