I have (2) 1995 POlaris Sporstman 400 that have starter issues and I would like to replace the stater and bendix on both. Does anyone know of a good service manual that would give sufficent details as to how to replace the starters? I was told that you need special tools to replace the stater - is this true. Thanks in advance.

 

no special tools are needed, basically all ya gotta do is take off your skid plate, chain gaurd, to get at ur recoil cover. once you take off the recoild cover there are two bolts holding the starter on from the inside on either end of the drive gear. i think there is on more longer bolt on the out side. there is also a small bracket holdng the starter on the opposite end. once all the bolts are removed slide it out. use a new gastket and pop the new starter in as you removed it.. its not to hard to do just takes some time... basic knowlegde is all ya really need..
