k&n for sportsman 500
I added one to my 400 Xplorer that was stock and I didn't need to rejet. I agree with Showtime, I noticed a better throttle response and I won't have to buy another air filter for the time I have the quad. When I bought mine, I also bought an Outerwear for added protection; although I don't use it much.

k&n for sportsman 500
i have the K&N for my 700 EFI and it works great...
on the 500 you shouldn't have to rejet....if you live in an area that you have great altitude changes, it could affect it, then again a carbed unit will be affected by altitude, when i had my 500 I put in a dial-a-jet, but then again i ride from 5000 - 13000 feet, so i needed it....
an a tip on the K&N....buy two, that way if you forget to clean it before a ride when it is dirty, you just put the other one in and then clean the other when you get a chance....i went overboard and actually have 3 of them
