I am stuck on a decision weather to buy a Predator or a YFZ, I have heard a lot of good things about the Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word tor, I already know the YFZ is a beast out of the box but the predator is about a grand cheaper but it looks to have the same specs.

well in a straight line, your crazy to think that a predator stock for stock is going to have a fat chance at winning in a drag. the predator is the best out of the box though. if your going to dune, get the either, if your going to MX, get the YFZ, if your going to trail run, get the Pred.

theres 3 different varients of the pred, the Standard, Troy Lee, and Limited

the Standard, is standard, the Troy lee has a Close Ratio transmition and Fox Podium X shocks in all 3 corners, nifty white plastics, and Maxxis Radial tires.

and my personal favorite of the bunch, the Limted, which has everything the Troy Lee has, PLUS a white brothers E-series pipe, Maxxis Razr 2's and nifty black plastics.

if your going to run against TRX450's and Raptor660's you shouldnet have a problem staying with them and/or beating them in a race. the new suzi and the YFZ though are going to be tough competition.

as i see you live in california, id take a look at a new Raptor 700r for those dunes and hill climbs. my 2 picks for a new quad would be another pred or the 700r.

If I had to do it all over again..I would have waited the 250+ days for the 700r..But if you like the idea of having reverse get the Pred..also consider the added goodies the pred comes with..also Polaris now has a 3 year warranty..I dont think Yamaha has that.

I recently got my 06 LE Predator and a week later my friend got his 06 Yamaha 450. In a straight line he wins but not by a mile. over several hundred yards he ends up 2-3 quad lengths in front of me. The difference is that I have reverse which is worth those few lengths in the trails. The LE Pred is still a grand cheaper than the Yamaha 450 but comes standard with a much better set up. This way I don't have to immediately go out and buy a suspension. And the Pred is a great all around machine. It handles track, trails, and hills right along any other quad that is set up for only one or the other. Teh 450 is lighter, but you pay more and give up some nice added stuff that you can get on the Pred.

Oh I got a good answer to the question. If you really like the way the YFZ's rear looks.
Ok now seriously, it all depends on where you'll be riding most of the time. If you're gonna be in tight trails where you'll want or need reverse then I guess the predator. But if you want to "sacrifice" reverse for a lighter quicker more nimble quad than get the YFZ.
Just one question for you now:
Did you already write off the z400 ? I researched 6-8 months before I decided on it. I wanted reverse for the tight stuff, wanted it to be quick- although I don't need the fastest quad in the group, and I wanted it to be fairly cheap. Look at my list of mods. It's not a long list, but it's great for the trails and I can hang with my brother on his YFZ.
The best part about it is I have less than $6300 into it. I spent under $1000 on all my mods and bought the quad for $5324 brand new out the door. My brother bought his 04 as a leftover around the same time for $6000 then put tires and sprockets on it. I'm not sure exactly how much he's got into his, I got my parts cheaper than him. But I've got a 2 year newer quad with reverse.

Just to clarify something about its speed, cause I just got back from riding like an hour ago with my friend, at El Mirage dry lake bed, who has a highly modded 450r with elite elka's, kenda tires, full yoshi pipe, kn air filter, etc. Also i just got my predator a few months ago and he has had his for about 2 years now so he has the upper hand in driving. In a 200yard drag race I beat him every time and all my quad has is a bumper i couldn't believe, and his bike was running perfect as was mine. He did have 1 or 2 mph on me in top speed. Now I know the yfz and 450r are very similiar, i havent raced one, but my friend with the honda has put alot of them to shame.
