Sounds like a fair price. As long as the AWD works like it should. At first your description of the quad sounded like a roll-over but it would have more damage. Warm up the quad and check the oil and for coolent leaks.
The only complaint I've heard from 400 owners is the engine may bog down on really steep hills, I believe there's a jetting fix.

I'm with your other replys .Check for straight handlebars, bent suspension, etc. Let it warm up good and ride it hard, some 400s dont cool real well. The 400 isnt a real performor but I think a jet kit would help.Neighbor 04 belt went away and they dont ride hard (stock bike). Good price.

I have a 02 Sptsmn 400 Mine did the bogging thing on hills was getting pretty upset with it. Then I rejetted it found a stock jet in it and i live at 6000 ft it helped some but the biggest dif was when I changed the primary clutch spring to a POLARIS white spring that brought it right to life now I can climb anything I want to in high range.

That's definitely a good deal, I sold my 04 400 for $4300 this past May..it had a plow but it had 2300 miles on it too. It cost me 6200 OTD when I bought it in 2003. I didn't have any winches or aftermarket tires so you'd be getting a lot of extra for your money..winches are expensive. As for the starter, that's something that could be replaced fairly easily I would think so if that's all that's wrong you'd be in great shape.

Sorry it took so long to reply I think it is a 140 or a 145 jet it had a 165 i do believe way too rich my local dealer told me that the 400's loose alot of power if over jetted. as for the spring i ordered it from the polaris dealer when i got my jet made a huge dif i plowed some real wet snow yesterday did most of it in high range only went into low because i think it is a little easier on the belt good luck.
