Default Lights wont work on friends 400 Sport..HELP

I was wondering if any of you Polaris guys could help me out. My friend has a 98 Polaris 400 sport 2wd. When you start the quad the front and rear light come on very bright and then proceed to dim out and then eventually go out completely. We completely re-wired the entire electrical system and the switch for the lights. It is also a brand new battery in the quad. Any idea what could be causing this? Stator maybe?.....but the quad still runs fine. Anybody that has any insight that would be great. THANKS

We currently have a '94 sport. If you rewired everything, I can not see why you would still have problems unless it's a relay or ground issue which should blow a fuse. I would think. Let me think about it somemore If I come up with something else, I'll post it

Sounds like a voltage regulator to me.
Stator issues are usually that they work or dont. Cant see that problem being the stator. It's been a couple of years since I've had my hands on the polaris electrical system, but I think the regulator/rectifier is one unit. It is mounted on the RH side next to the steering shaft, about a 3x4 inch black box.

if it was the rectifier then it would drain your battery, or worse would blow the lights w/ too much voltage. it only controls the amount of volts that is allowed to go thru your wheeler. if it stop controlling it, it would built up too many volts blowing bulbs.

not neccasarily my regulator went and I had no lights not becuase it blew the bulbs but it let no power through to them. lost all my idiot lights and what not. I ended up just cutting the factory regulaotr out and I use a moose one to control lights only.
