carburetor cleaning help

My kid took his Polaris 90 for a swim. I took off air cleaner and it was a mess, leaves, mud, etc. How do I clean the carb on this thing??? Do I want to break it down or just use carb cleaner and spay in?? If you can help please explain in detail. Please bear with me I am a newbie in the ATV world but am loving it so far.

never just put a carb in cleaner and expect it to do a good job. you must take it apart to do a though job.

You sure you don't have my kid?
He seems to think it was made to float and run into trees? (Swingset I think?)
There are a couple of ways to approach it....
If it hasn't been sitting long you are gonna be fine.....
Remove the air cleaner and find the overflow fuel line on the carburator... It should be located towards the top I think...
Blow into that line with either an air compressor or like we have to do in the field Mouth to hose!
You should purge the carburator.... I am guessing 2 stroke oil injected?
Make sure there is no water in the oil... we got lucky...
Reassemble and choke it until it starts....
Should have taken care of the water in the carb....
HOPE THIS HELPS...

Jon

Hey chikester,
If you have no experience with a carburetor, then I suggest you have someone work on it who does have experience. If you don't know what your doing, then you can cause more problems then good. I'm not picking on you, but it sounds like you never done this before.

Gunman is speaking from experience so i would listen to him take it in if you don't know what your doing. You could end up making thing worse an then blame Polaris's. Or get a manual could also help.

Yes, I seen x_scrambler3 work on her carb, and she wound up having to buy a new one. Don't make the same mistake she did.
