The water pump issue was really only a problem on the '02 700s. They use a mechanical type water pump seal that can occasionally weap a little in extreme cold conditions when the machine is stored. I have had a sp600 and now a sp700efi and both weaped initially when new, then stopped almost immediatly. no problems after that. Great machines when properly maintained, just like everything else. I would ride it and make up your own mind, I think you'll like it!

The problem is when mud/dirt/sand gets sucked into the hole on top of the coolant recovery bottle. You can easily fix this with a fitting, rtv and a plastic hose. I'm going to do this with mine. I just got my 800 EFI's water pump fixed from the dealer. When the engine cools from being under water in mud/dirt, junk gets sucked through that hole in the red cap. That is the weakness. Fix it, i'm going to, and then you shouldn't have pump issues. I could see dirt in the hose under the recovery bottle after a hard ride in the mud. It only takes a few particles of sand to start wearing out the mechanical seal on the pump. Just my 2 cents.
