Default sportsman : 4X4 or speedometer not working

i just installed a new battery and still the AWD or speedo dont work.
should a light come on as soon as i push the AWD button to let me know
that its in AWD?or will it just come on when the front tires kick in? also
i took the cover off of the speedo and its analog so i dont think it has anything
to do with the AWD working.if ANYONE can tell me what i should check on both
of these problems please help me out. I am open to any and all help.

thanks in advance

looks like you need a new speedo. The speedo controls the AWD and thats why its not working also.

If you have the black speedo with an analog odometer, then the 2 problems you have are seperate issues. If the speedo has a digital odometer, then they are related. Does the AWD light come on at the switch?

You could, but it can be a number of things. Does the nuetral/reverse light work correctly? Does the nuetral stay on all the time? Check power to the switch. If you are getting no power to it, then it will rule it out. Start with this and let us know
