03 Sportsman 500 HO oil Leak at Drain Plug
I recently did an oil change on my 500 after rolling it for the first time. Since the change I have noticed a small leak that appears to be coming from the drain plug. I removed the draing plug again, drained the oil and replaced the plastic washer with a new one. I still have a small leak. First, how much torque can I put on the drain plug and second can you crack the oil case by overtightening the drain plug.
One more thing I went to a local dealer and asked for the washer and the dealer gave me a metal washer instead of the plastic. Did something change I did not know about?
Thanks

I presume you're talking abuot the reservoir tank and not the engine drain plug right?
I guess the big thing to check is that the reservoir case isn't cracked. Another might be dirt on the mating surfaces.
In regards of the metal ring washer, it seems the dealer gave you the washer for the engine drain plug instead of the reservoir plug.
Good luck with it!

That is correct, the reservoir tank. I just got back from the dealership and I did get the wrong washer. I went ahead and bought the oil change kit which included both washers. I am goin home tonight and change out the washer again. Hopefully I did not crack the reservoir, we will see.
Thanks for the reply, this was my first post and I reference this site quite often.

welcome to the forums and good luck!! Just make sure that the washer, plug and plug hole surfaces are immaculately clean. Then if it's still leaking, you're almost sure of it being a cracked reservoir.
Some here have replaced the plastic reservoir with the older aluminum <?> one from ebay. Might be worth a shot ..
