Default setting the tow

Can the tow on the rear of a 700 polaris sportsman be adjusted? I guess I should be more specific. The left rear wheel has a slight tilt, the top is out just a bit, sort of bulllegged if you will. Just the left rear.

From your description I do not believe you are talking about "toe". The tilting out at the top as you have referred to it is "camber" and my understanding is that camber is not adjustable on the rear but you did not indicate what year your 700 was so I cannot say that definitively.

Sorry it's a 04 700 sportsman. Yes you are right the camber. At any rate I guess I may have tweeked it somehow while riding. I wonder if someone can fix it.

Gat,

There are a few things to check. First check your upper and lower control arm to carrier bolts. These are notorious for breaking. Next check to see that you did not bend your control arm--if the top of the tire is pointed out and a control arm is bent or broken it is usually the bottom control arm. Last check the carrier itself where the control arms mount to see if it is broken--highly unlikely but possible. I'm bettin' on the bolts. If any of the above parts are bent/broken replace them fixing them is not a good option as the parts are weaker after being rebent or repaired and the cost of doing so would outweigh replacement. Those are my thoughts anyway.

Just an FYI, You were on the money so to speak. There were no broken bolts but almost every bolt was loose. The bolt that runs the length of the lower control arm which may be two bolts going opposing directions was very loose and the entire hub assembly would move. The anti- sway brackets were also loose.

After going through the back end last night it straightened everything right out.

Tonight I will hit the front end.

Glad you found out before actual breakage occurred. Those bolts are regularly complained about for being loose and then breaking. Many have replaced them with grade eight bolts because the stock ones have snapped when loose. Thanks for letting us know the result.
