Just purchased a '07 Limited Edition X2 500!

In my "Dear Polaris" thread several weeks ago I expressed my displeasure with Polaris for not offering a more comfortable passenger seat. My wife wanted to be at least as comfortable on the new machine as she was on the Kimpex Deluxe seat on our 2001 Sportsman.

I liked the Outlander engine and ride, although it appeared to be more delicate than the Polaris. But I couldn't make a final deal with the BRP dealer. And when my wife sat on the Outlander she didn't like the seat, although it is much better than the X2 seat.

My wife asked the Polaris dealer why the old Kimpex seat couldn't be used on the X2. Actually, there was no reason.

The X2 backrest is held by two bolts that are removed with a 1/2 " ratchet boxend in seconds. The old Kimpex Deluxe seat fits down into the box nicely and is easily secured at the 4 corners with toggle bolts. This solves the problem of an uncomfortable seat and at the same time provides lots of storage.

(There are other seats available that fit into the box. Unfortunately the new '07 Kimpex Deluxe seat is too wide to fit. The old one must have been custom made to fit down into a rack)

The Kimpex seatpad sits on top of the existing seat and therefore higher footrests are necessary.

And by the way, the X2 is very nice! It feels very much like a regular Sportsman with no loss of ride comfort. I must admit the box is nice (useful) and the second seat can be used for short impromptu rides. I'll use the Kimpex seat only on planned outings - the conversion takes only minutes.

I do feel, however, the effort Polaris put into designing the 'dumping' mechanism should have been used to come up with a comfortable seat and a little storage space.

i knew you'd turn around eventually. the Outlander might be a bit faster, but that single spar frame wont stand a chance. good luck and have fun with your new X2, the 500EFI is a fantastic motor!

Congrats on the new purchase Ebel. I will be picking mine up on Saturday. One of the concerns I had about the bike (other than maybe a harsh ride in 1 up situations) was the passenger seat. I thought about going to an auto upholstery place and have them make me a bottom seat that you could strap on that would be more comfortable. It's great to hear that the Kimpex seat will work. I live in Ontario and can get most of my stuff from a place called Royal Distributing. Would you happen to know what the part number of the rear seat is, or it's dimensions so I can call them and see if they have one I could use. The one in their catalog shows that it is 42" wide at it widest, but at the base tapers in what looks to be about 4 inches on either side making it about 34" at the base. Would that fit into the box do you think. Thanks, and if you could PM me pictures let me know and I'll send you my address. Thanks

Ebel, one other thing, do you not sit further rearward with the Kimpex box as opposed to the stock seat? Do you think you still sit forward of the rear axle, or at least over top of it? Thanks.

Ebel...seeing you are a townie I assume you were dealing with Fun-N-Fast. If so - no wonder you couldn't reach a deal with them. Since they are the only Bombi dealer within a couple hundred klicks I have purchased 2 sleds from them. Hated every second of the purchase process - just total arrogance and disrespect for customers. But anyway you will be happier with your Polaris in the long run. While the Bombi is a nice bike with a killer motor the TSS & lack of protection underneath would make me shy away from it.

The back rest is a little further back but is still on the rear axle. You can easily move the seat back forward should you need to.

the polaris' frame is larger and considerably stronger than the Outlanders. there have been several occasions ive seen on these boards were the outlanders frame was cracked.
