blown belt-hole in cover
I was out with a buddy 2 weeks ago, we were in some pretty muddy areas around the local Hydo high voltage lines, which are known to be pretty swampy. He decides to try this swamp hole and gets stuck, and also sink his bike over the air intake. He has a 05 sp 500 ho and i have a 99 sp 500. I pull him out of that hole and thru 10 out so more mud hole with some steep hills thrown in for about 4 miles. I could smell burning rubber at one point. I got home and he got his oil changed and got his bike going the next day.
The next saturday i went out with another buddy (450 honda) we had a pretty good trip until the home stretch when i had mine wide open on a flat stretch when all of a sudden i here this noise which i automatically knew what it was, The belt broke and poked a hole in the top of the cover (about 1/2 the size of a dime) .
my question is is it very diffucult to change the belt and maintain a water tight seal, and what should i do to fix the hole. can i use silicon or fiber glass .
I really didn't like getting pulled the short distance home by the honda.
thanks

The belt is easy to change, make sure to get the correct one. There are several dfferent ones. As for the cover, if this is in a good location, you can find a piece of durable plastic and use 5 minute plastic weld. It is a 2 part epoxy, works good. That cover is about $100!
