Have intermittent rev , removed linkage to trans and manually selected with no help, when it does go in rev runs , smooth, no gear chatter or missing teeth, internal chains seem fine. is there a shift fork or mechanism internal that is noted for wear?

 

my 96 does the same thing and if i do not hear the "click" i give it a little bit of throttle and it goes into reverse without touching the shift lever.
