Does Polaris think gas stations are everywhere?
Maybe they have some other reason...
Like the 700 and the 800 motor are way higher, so take the place of the tank...
Bomb, Arctic cat an Kawasaki have tanks under the seat, between the rear wheels...polaris can't do that, they're suspension and transmission take to much place...
And the X2 is 6" longer, so they have more place for the gas tank...
I don't like it either, but i can live with it... and the old one does'nt have a fuel gauge...

I've been looking at the part #?s on the 06 800 and the 06 500 X2 and they are different. They look the same but the difference is unknown. I?m curious if the 6 gallon X2 tank would fit in my 800. The 07 500 X2 and 07 800 X2 share the same base # with a different color codes. Sitting on an X2 it doesn?t feel any wider and the plastic looks very similar. Any one have any input on this? The extra capacity would be handy.

I already tryed it, when I had my 800. The X2 chassis is longer allowing for a bigger tank. Look at the side shot of yours, and the X2, and study the belt case placement. You'll see what I mean! The engine is way back on the X2 compared to yours! Sorry to bring bad news!

Took the MV out today for it's first trip, the fuel was being sucked DOWN. I was completely topped off on bith tanks, and rode about 20 miles. Mostly mud boggin it up! The front tank dropped to about 1/3 on the gage. I didn't top it off yet to see the actual fuel usage. I have 8.75 gals onboard, now I can probably go as long as my Jap buddies!

I would be willing to get you pics and measurements. I'll help out in anyway I can. I thought about it too, when I had my 800. Be prepared to cut a hole in rear rack (to fill tank), obviously run fuel line, and you would need a diverter valve unless you want to "T" it into existing fuel line. Honestly, I don't see any reason that it would not work. I was not able to follow through, because I put a winch in the rear. The law of "something" says "no two objects can occupy the same space" I wanted a winch more! Let me know, I'll help you out!
