I would say that it is most definately worth trading in. I have ridden with the 97 5oo Scramblers and they seem doggy. I think the only thing about the 97 & 98's were the same color plastic. Other than that the 98's and beyond are smokin compared to the 97 (which is the only year that it was a non HO). That is my two cents worth.
