Alright the scrambler 400 2x4(sport 400) is a two stroke. I have seen h.p. ratings on this motor from 36-38, about the same as the banshee. Then why the heck isn't it faster than a 400ex! I mean does the weight make that big a difference? I want to get this quad but I feel like I am almost better off getting the ex.

Weight definitely makes a difference, but i think its mostly in the tranmission. Manuals will usually have a higher top end than autos but they accelerate slower. I think the Scrambler 400 and 400 ex are closer than you think though ive heard of people beating 400 exs all the time on their scrambler.

A 400ex is no match for a pipe and ported 400 Scrambler. Stock, the main difference is in the extra weight of the Scrambler. Heck, a modded scrambler will keep up with a stock Banshee ususlly up to high gear, and will go through much more mud.

I have seen a stock 4x4 Scrambler beat a 400Ex in a 500 foot grass drag, My friends 1996 Xpress 400 will easily beat a 400EX in a race top speed and all. some people who own 400EX's are big into bragging to the point of out right lying.

I was just refering to an article in dirtwheels about 2 years ago. They had the sport400 vs the 400ex vs the banshee. The 400ex beat the sport in every category from acceleration to top end speed. The article said the top speed was about 62 for the sport, 64 for the ex, and 68 for the banshee.

Don't forget, you can't put the 400ex into reverse. :) And you will always be in the right gear.
