I love my sp500, no complaints except for that stupid rev override button. It really stinks if you have to get pulled out in reverse and you gotta have long arms and use both hands to hold the button and throttle in. Is there any way to disable this button? Maybe a fuse, or hotwire or maybe just put a ziptie around it to hold it in permanantly. If so would this damage anything? Any thoughts????

ON MY 1998 MAGNUM 425 I UNPLUGED THE OVERRIDE BUTTON. THE WIRE WAS LOCATED UNDER THE COVER OF THE HEADLIGHT.GET YOUR WIRING DIAGRAM TO FIND YOURS. IT DIDNT HURT ANYTHING AND IT GAVE ME FULL POWER WHEN I NEEDED IT.JUST LET EVERYBODY THAT RIDES IT KNOW THAT IT IS UNPLUG BECAUSE OF THE SPEED.GOOD LUCK.

There anyway to hotwire it so when you mash it, its like overide in a car and gives the 4-wheeler more power in drive?

What model year is your SP cos it makes a difference. Mine is a 98 and has a spade lug terminal strip under the headlight pod. My understanding is in later models the terminal strip was eliminated. I would think the wiring is the same but I cannot be sure without the appropriate wiring map. Anyway it is not too difficult to bypass the Reverse Override if I remember correctly one grey wire had to be disconnected and a 1-amp diode had to be installed. My wiring schematic is not here right now so I cannot verify this. If anyone needs to know what needs to be done (on a 98 SP) let me know and I will dig out the schematic.

I simply bypassed my speed limiter by following the wiring diagram in my owners manual. Mine is a '97 Scrambler 400 and as far as I know the electrical connection panel is different from yours. Just look at the wiring diagram and find the "speed limiter" switch. Then find the wires comming from your overide button. The rest you'll have to figure out on your own. The idea is to isolate the speed limiter from the circuit without breaking the rest of the circuit. Once you sit down and study it you'll figure it out.

I ended up wiring my overide button to engage my front hubs so that I could switch to 4 wheel drive on the fly, without removing my thumb from the throttle. I like it.

Sounds like Polaris still isn't listening! I removed my reverse over-ride button 8 years ago and they are still using the stupid things!
The button is a normally-closed path to ground that shorts out your ignition in reverse. Pushing the button just temporarily breaks the path to ground. TAKE IT OFF AND THROW IT AWAY!!!!

You will find Reverse Override instructions and other interesting tidbits by following the link in my signature. Go to the ATV Odds & Ends folder.
