Default Snow Plow Operations - (Plow newbie)

Okay I am in the Mid-Atlantic region
of the East Coast and we have gotten
slammed by this storm. Our area complete
ICE STORM. Off work today (am I really LOL)

Has anyone used their plows to scrape thick
ICE and push slush?

Tick,

The plow will scrap ice, but that's about it. It won't get rid of it. As far as slush, depends on how deep it is and how hard you want to work your ATV. A few inches should move without a problem. Just give the face of the blade a good hardwaxing before using it. I wax mine at the start of the season and again whenever the snow starts sticking to it.

Good luck!

If you need a quick solution, I've sprayed Pam cooking spray or Mazola on a chute of an old snowblower when slush was sticking to it and clogging. It helped a bit. May work on a plow also.

I live in Pa. near Lancaster, we got blasted with 2" snow, 3"of sleat and freezing rain. I have a 2005 Grizzly 660 with a 60" plow and it wouldn't even come close to pushing it. I used the snow blower to make a descent size path in the driveway and then if I took half a blade full I could push it. ( probably an 1" of slush under all of that crap) I can easily push a foot of regular snow with the machine, but this stuff was too heavy. Can't wait till spring!!!!

Yea, I went out there today and just pushed and
scooped up with my snow shovel. Yes it was heavy,
feeling it now. Yea, I don't think the plow would of
help to much based on my shovel easily riding over
it where I needed to dig down to scoop it.

I also thought it would be real hard like what covered
our vehicles early this morning but that wasn't the case.
Of course the weathermen are calling for total freeze
tonight of all the melt and rain left over the ice.

What a mess!

well You guys can have all my freakin snow! I got up this mourning and had to plow 12" out of one part of my driveway to get to work, ended up being 25 mins late to a meeting. I ran three calls by 2:00 when they told me to head home. By the way I'm a heating guy. I got home and had another 10" in the driveway where I had plowed this mourning. I plowed my driveway with my sp 500 from 2:30 to 6:00. once I was done I have 5 foot tall snow banks sore arms and a bent plow frame on my new plow setup. I tried to go ride my trails and got buried. I'm really bumed out now no more trail riding till some melts. Total in my yard I have 44" from the past week and a half, not good for riding just plowing. I can't wait till spring now! I'm really regreting not haveing a snowmobile, but I'm sure next year I'll have one in the garage. Hope you guys are not as buried as we are I looked out a few minutes ago and see I have another 2" already and the snow plow finally went by and gave me another 2' at the end of my driveway, oh well time to go plow again.

We got some real wet, heavy, sloppy sh*t today ... I could only push so far before all 4 wheels would spin. Had to back up & slam the piles @ about 15 MPH to clear the driveway. Took a while, but cleaned it up nice (just to have it buried again).

Hey thanks for all the tips and I like the
Pam cooking spray idea. Hmm, still waiting
for the snow not only to put this thing to
the test but just to ride in it, eheh
