I decided to do maintenance today so I'm changing lubricants. I was surprised, when I pulled the recoil and starter drains to find oil run out. I thought they were water drains. Also, when I pulled the crankcase drain not much came out. Is this normal?? No surprises when I pulled the counter balance and transmission drains. What's up with the above though??

The crankcase drain is there for preventative reasons. Its there in case you every blow a head gasket or get water into the engine somehow. Unless either one of these has happened, you should'nt get much of anything.

I blew the He!! out of a head gasket once and still did'nt get but a couple of oz. of gas/coolant mix out.

I know nothing about the recoil or starting draining.

Hope to have helped a little,

EC

I think your pulling the wrong plugs, check your owners manual.
GOOD LUCK;)

The crankcase drain explanation makes sense. Thanks! As far as what plugs I'm pulling, I went right off the picture in the manual and their location makes sense looking from underneath. I need to make a trip to the dealer to get some trans lube so I'll see what they have to say.
Thanks for the help!

Well the crankcase only holds .93 quarts or oil. It isn't much. Now as far as the recoil starter goes, I have had oil come out of mine also. I don't know if it's because I put too much oil in the motor or what. It wasn't much. I don't think that it is anything to worry about. You should also drain the front differential and refill it with fresh gear oil.
