Low gear is for working only such as pushing a plow or pulling something.High gear is all you need when just trail riding even going up hill or at low speeds.I do like low range when making a trail at a crawls pace and walking the bike over logs and large rocks.I know there are some hills I can only get up in high range because low is to slow to keep the speed up.
