help a female PLEASE 95ish polaris sportsman 400
I obtained a 95 or 96 Polaris Sportsman 400 thru divorce. I have never done anything with it but start it and ride it. It has sat for a year and I replaced a pet **** and now the battery. Now I can see like a hose thingy hanging and don't know where it goes. Its at the back of the machine like by the spring shock thing. I just want to see the back of someone's four wheeler so I can see where its supposed to connect to. Neither side is connected to anything so both ends are hanging there. I am guessing it has a purpose since it is clamped to a metal thing. I can take a picture of it and email it if I can find someone kind enuf to help me. Thanks. Deb

i had to give the old battery to batteries plus when i got the new one. the old battery was different than the new one. they told me this one is sealed and maintenance free. do you think the old one would have had a vent and the new one doesn't? my brother said maybe the hose was a breather for the gas tank or carbuerator but the hose doesn't appear to be long enuf to go that far.

Look on the left, or positive side of the battery. There should be a vent that a tube would go to just behind where the positive cable is hooked up.
Doesn't need the long one that came with it, so you could just pull on the one you're not sure about. Don't yank it, but pull gently. If it stops, it's still connected to something. Only other thing it would be is the tube for the carb drain. Another thing that won't kill it if you pull it off. But you would want to put it back, just to keep dirt out of the drain.

it is the battery vent line. when you pulled out the old battery it slide off the nipple because it was attached to something. the gas tank vent lines go up under the handle bar area away from water. and their right even a sealed battery needs a vent hose.
