Default 10 minutes to crank on 2001 HO Polaris 500

Polaris 2001 500 HO, I have serious trouble starting my bike. It takes at least ten minutes to start. Once started it runs great. It does not kill at all, my first thought would be a filed plug, but as I mentioned it does not kill at all. What could be the problem.. Your replies will be greatly appreciated.....

check the choke circuit..it acts like its plugged and not letting the motor get the extra fuel it needs ot start when cold. which is why ou have to crank on it for a while to build those vapors up enough to get the motor to fire off.

Try priming the carb by cycling the throttle prior to turning the key. If your carb is equipped with an accelerator pump, giving it full throttle and letting off will inject raw fuel into the throat of the carburetor. The more you pump, the more fuel it gets. Try two or three pumps to begin with, not too much or you'll flood it.

Check your valves for proper adjustment. I used to run a Kawi BF 750 that had to have the valves adjusted every 50 - 100 hrs. It was a pita when when they were out of whack.

Does it start right up with the pull cord? I found my battery was too low to start mine. New battery and no problems.

no 10 minutes at least. pull cord, starter motor, pushing it 1/2 mile to jump start it will take 10 min.

I would looking into the choke curcuit, like said earlier. also looking to the carb to engine boot for any cracks allowing any air in making the fuel mixture lean. It does sound like a lean condtion. Choke cable could be broke, a quick way to tell if the choke is working without taking the carb apart, is when you do get it started and it is warmed up. Take and pull the choke out, it should choke the engine and die or at least pull the idle down a good bit. If you here no change in the engine idle the choke is not working.

Also to help start it you can at your own risk try some starting fluid or carb cleaner. Also when you do get it started spray some around the carb boot between the carb and engine, you should not here any change in idle.

Hope this helps.

I had this exact problem. Pull cord and she would fire right up. Turn the key no deal. Changed battery, turn key no more problem. At first I did not suspect the battery until it got so low that I was having trouble with winching up the plow. I had to give it some throttle just to get the plow off the ground.
