i was never able to without a clutch puller it comes right off just screw it in and use and impackt gun on the tightening position and it normally pops off sopetimes it takes a lil banging.

http://www.hpd-inc.com/Tools.htm hear it is its $25 dollars hear it screws into the clutch and goes up against the crankand pulls it off with out putting strain on the engine mounts or crank bearings.

3/4" fine thread bolt will work...it'll need to be at least six inches long & threaded the whole length(you might want to grind the threads off of the first 3-1/2 inches...don't think it's necessary though)
Or.... a shorter bolt with a spacer of some sort(socket, steel rod...etc), 3-1/2 inches long, inserted into the hole before threading the bolt in.
You just want to make sure whatever you use is only slightly smaller than the hole so that you don't screw up the threads in the end of the crankshaft.
I've read that once you tighten the bolt up you can hit the end a couple of times with a hammer & it will pop the clutch assembly off of the crankshaft ... (I've always used an impact wrench)
I think trailer hitch balls are 3/4" fine thread...... Hey in a pinch..... Improvise!!

a puller is the only way to get them off, otherwise you'll break it. homemade threaded pull will work fine w/ a double nut on the end w/ an impact gun.
