Sportsman 450 mods

Hey guys, I have a buddy who has a Sportsman 450, and he loves it, but he has been noticing that it is bogging a bit on some of the steeper hills. He asked me what I would suggest for giving it just a little more power for those times.

I suggested Jetting, K&N filter, possibly Outerwearzing the air box lid, and possibly a pipe if he can find a decent deal.

Any other suggestions? Best brands?

How about clutching? I know that made a huge difference on my Scramblers capabilities.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have two 2006 Sp 450 all stock......You can get the K&N air filter for them..But don't know if that will make any noticable improvement though!!.......Clutching may be the best if your looking for power gains .....I am happy with the power...Caper.......

For cheap power, clutching is the way to go for sure!!! Then a jet kit, or just cut a few winds out of the spring for the vacuum slide. A pipe won't give a lot of power just more noise. And the air filter might give a little more too. Do it all at one time and it'll be a noticable differance

I also have a 07 SP 450, I just test drove a 08 500 Scrambler at the dealer the other day, Wow what a power diff. but the bike just was a bit small for me. So I was like lets see what I can find to make my 450 a bit faster or sumpin, and well this is what I run into with the 450 No one lists it, lol like it just was never made. I wld say a pipe and diff air filter wld help, I wld also like to do a cam upgrade but cant find anything for this quad. I am assuming I cld get a pipe for like the 500 HO and it wld work, but what about cams. I was looking at pipes at this placehttp://www.aaenperformance.com/4S_P1.asp but I just started to shop also...

Cld you explain "just cut a few winds out of the spring for the vacuum slide." what this is and what it does.

Alright, I'll definitely suggest the clutch kit as the first step, I just did a quick search and found these:

but for what he's looking for I really don't know the difference or which one he would want.

I'm also unclear on what cutting a few winds out of the spring for the vacuum slide accomplishes?

New guy here and I have a 2006 450 Sportsman
I had a Pro-Circuit T-4 exaust System
EPI Clutch Kit # WE414017
and the Carb Re-jetted at the same time
and it did wake it up.

I also had problems finding parts for the 450,
the stock 450 and 500Ho exaust #'s were
the same so I ended up ordering 500Ho exaust
which worked fine except I had to modify the aftermarket
rear bumper because stock aims downwards and
aftermarket comes out the back.

Came here to read up on the new 400HO
and saw this thread on the 450 and had some
input on what was being discussed.

I am running 26-10-12 Rears, 26-8-12 fronts
ITP Mudlites, also have EPI Springs on the front.

I have been on this site before reading information,
but never saw the forum section.
