I visited the Polaris web site for info about the 400 4x4 2 stroke. It seems they stopped making it. I was considering buying one. Is this true? If so, why? Thnaks.

as far as I know it is only the 2x4 400 Scrambler. I think it is just the begining of the end for the 2 stroke motor and Polaris atv's. it is to bad too there is know way that the 2 stroke atv's and snowmobiles put out a tenth of a percent of the ammount of polution that cars do. but auto companies have more lobbying dollars. it is a shame really. Next is the snowmobile 2 strokes, which i guess it is really no big deal just that the companies are being forced to stop using 2 strokes. It would be different if it was a performance issue and changing was going to be better for the consumer. all this will do is up the price of the machines especially sleds. a 90-150 hp 4 stroke engine will be crazy exspensive to build. or all sleds will be slow. which won't hurt the governments feelings. Hopefully it won't ever come to the point were i fondly remember how fast my 1989 Indy Sport 340 was!!!!

Yea, I just heard that myself, they no longer make the 4x4 400. It really sucks. That was about the only Polaris that I would have liked to have had. That or if they would switch the 400 xplorer to shaft.
There's just something about the 2stroke sound and smell combined with a snowmobile transmition that I love. You might be able to pick up one of last year's though if you act fast. |
In my opinion Polaris 2 strokes sound like junk!!!

imo, they got tired of honda, yamaha people crying to thier dealers about a 500lb so called junk was whooooopin [hill jack term] thier ***es every weekend in the woods and trails!!! and that my friends would be my guess!!!!!!!hehehehehe

I don't like to get involved in these flame topics...but I may be making a trip to silverlake at the same time, and we can have some friendly racing to settle this once and for all:-)

I'm looking at a 99 400(2 stroke) 4x4 right now that a friend of mine is selling for about $4400 I like the bike except for the white and red color scheme and the white rims. I like the 2000 all red scheme and metal rims better but I can't find any 2000 bikes for sale locally. Is there any other differences between 99 and 2000? And does anyone know if they discontinued this because of problems with this combination of 2 stroke and 4x4???? When I first learned of this combination I thought it would be a slug with the lower torque of the 2 stroke motor, but after riding his 99 400 4x4 and then riding a 99 500 4x4 I was very surprized that the 400 would out perform the 500 with a pipe and clutch mods.
I have a 86 Suzuki LT250R with several mods (too many to list, I need to make a website) and the only bike that can keep up with me is the craptor with mods. This is a serious 2 stroke which sounds just right with a FMF core pipe. But I'm looking for more of a fast trail-bike so that's why I'm seriously looking at these 400 Polaris 4x4 Scrambler models. Their 2 strokes sound muffeled, even with a nice pipe. They did create a new Xplorer 4x4 model that has a 244 cc 2 stroke motor in it for 2001 that is supposed to replace the Scrambler 400 4x4. |
250rampage, check out the post titled "SilverLake Trip?" We are getting a group together for the month of may. It would be great if you came... no matter who wins the competitions! By the end of this weekend there should be about 20+ of us already interested in going.
