that would be the hole for the counterbalance plug. You NEED to get that taken care of. Drain the oil and refill and get a plug for that. You have a potential for some serious problems if you don't get that fixed.</end quote></div>
That is what I figured since I could not find a dipstick under my seat as the sorry manual states.... I really don't like the all-for-one excuse for a manual.... nor do I like the lack of an illustrated parts list.

It's not like a crankcase on a 4-stroke. The way I understand it, there's a weight on the crankshaft opposite the piston to make it run smooth, so it doesn't shake and rattle like a Harley, no offense intended. When the piston is up the weight is down, when the piston is down the weight is up. It balances out so it doesn't build up a vibration.

so i have the 400L 2 stroke also would i have to take off the air cleaner box under the seat to find the dip stick... because i cant see it anywhere</end quote></div>
It would make it a lot easier. There were two colors of caps on the dipsticks, some were reddish orange and the others were silver in color. I'm not aware of any models that didn't have the dipstick but I suppose it is possible. What model do you have? If you see the plug on the front just go strait to the rear of the case(you should see the separation lines between the recoil and crankcase) the dipstick will be threaded into that same case.
