What type of oil and oil filter would be best for a 2002 Polaris Trail Boss 325?
Thanks

Hey there...

Good question, in fact its the same question that I have. I've been buzzing around on a 2 stroke for the last couple of years, but now I've picked up a 2000 TrailBoss 325 4 stroke. Someone on another forum was mentioning that he uses only full synthetic oil 0w50. He uses this in the crankcase and in the transmission. Could someone verify if this is a good idea. How do you go about draining the oil cooler on the front of the bike?

Thanks

Wrench

For a 2 stroke there are a lot of "aftermarket" oils out there that are as good or better then OEM and by far cheaper, recommending one would probably start a worthless debate thats been overdone already, buy the best you can afford and if possible with your budget make it synthetic. I think a bigger problem to worry about is consistency in using the same oil, DO NOT blend synthetic & conventional oils.

I believe the correct oil for you 4-stroke is 0W-40 full synthetic.

*********My bad I was talking and typing, though the same goes for 4 strokes. Easiest and safest is run what the dealer would put in and in your case its 0-40w full synthetic. Just don't try to "blend oils" you'll only end up with headaches run one type per oil change.

Don't worry MW. We've all mis-read things, or thought one thing and typed something else.

0w40 synthetic Polaris or Mobil1.A good air filter would be a UNI for dusty conditions or K&N for dry clear.Uni is a foam and will last a few years with proper cleaning and oiling.K&N is is a gauze type and will last a lifetime if maintained properly.

K&N will disintegrate if you clean it in gasoline instead of using filter cleaner. Then it sucks in dirt and gauze. Just thought everyone should know.

I probably catch crap for this but I got to add my .02 -- Stick with a OEM filter they do everything the others will, and they will do it better and cost less.
