<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>I hate to open this can of worms again but, Polaris recommends 0w/50 for the Hawkeye. I'm not a big fan of 0w oil. IMO, too thin for an air cooled engine, especially in the summer heat. I would either use the 0w/50, or the Mobil 1 15w/50. And yes Mobil 1 can be bought at any auto parts store, I happen to get mine at AutoZone. </end quote></div>

Polaris cams need oil as soon as possible on cold start ups. The 0w just means the oil flow and is thinner for start ups ,one heated up at running temperature A 0w-40 is still a 40 weight oil the 40 is the important number.

A 10w-40 can not start flowing to the valve train as quickly as 0w-40 yet once at temp they are both 40 weight oils.

0w oil info

Your change to 15w just delays oil to the cam on cold starts.

I use Mobil 1 0W-40 oil and M1-110 filter. The X2 has 46 hours and I'm gearing up to change the oil for the second time now.

the 01 sprtsman has over 5000 miles on it with no engines noise or problems. never has the valves been adjusted. the oil has been changed once a year in the fall . it averaged 600 to 700 miles with about 60 to 70 hours. i run mobil 1 in everything including car with 210000 miles. i change oil in car at roughly 10000 mile intervals. oil is still clean looking when drained

I have over 3500 miles on my 07 500 EFI. I change the oil every 75 hrs (Polaris Oil) and have no problems. A friend of mine in Texas runs Mobil 1 and had both the Polaris and Mobil 1 tested at 100 hrs and neither had an issue.

I bought it Dec 06. I am lucky in the fact that I live in the middle of the Ouachita National forest in Arkansas. I can go out my back door to ride and have access to many miles of trails within 1 to 3 hrs from my house. We ride almost every weekend and a lot of our rides are 60 - 100 miles. I have retired 3 Kawi's and this is by far the best machine I have owned. I expect to get between 7 - 10,000 on this one. The Kawi's petered out at around 3000 miles.
