Default Any guidance on an 06 Sportsman 500

Hello Everyone, first time on this website.
I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem as me.
I pull on the recoil rope and get splashed with oil.
At this point, I am thinking some type of seal broke and allowed engine oil into the recoil.
I will be pulling the recoil shortly to assess the problem, any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again

lindy

Pull recoil, flywheel, could be either stator seal or o-ring leaking behind stator plate, while in there, best to replace both! Steering wheel puller with 8mm bolts can be used to pull flywheel, just dont damage threads, tighten far as can and pop puller shaft with hammer, flywheel should pop off. Or if have impact and 1" socket, just pulls straight off. Notice timing marks at top of stator and case. Reseal recoil with light coat of rtv sealant.Be sure to tuck stator wires in channel. Good luck
