HPD 400 mods
#1
Been lurking for awhile. Formley road the "family" 96 400 sport for a few years now and have loved it but always kind of wanted the scrambler. Would be handy to really get into some fun with awd.
Well one came on trade at my buddies dealer so I bought it up. I was riding a 250 timberwolf for the past year, he ended up buying a 06? Raptor 700R and another buddy got a KFX 700 in the last month, so needless to say I was struggling to keep up. Woods riding timberwolf is a blast, getting there got boring.
The sport aspect is fun, little heavier than sport obviously, but I feel like I'm back riding it. Even pulled the dynoport pipe I had on it and put it on here. It increased the mid but no low or high. For AWD though, I need more low end. I snagged a HPD clutch kit on ebay because stock aen't doing it for me at any range. Now shall this help? Revving a bit more don't bother me at all. I know it'll basically hold primary out little longer to enange it more in its power band. Can I expect a good difference with it? Might even come with pipe but the auction wasn't clear. It's all brand new.
As for other stuff I see on there site, what's some good stuff to buy. I want to get more down low than anything. I'd rather have it there than blazing high speed power. Low ends more handy. Granted keeping up with a raptor and kfx no problem would be fun But I know neither of them need to do much to go right back to pulling away.
Oh, and I made sure to try out the awd. Needless to say I'm getting a winch within couple weeks.

If you have a Dynoport pipe just clutch for that pipe it is the best lowend pipe you can get.I would recomend a Dalton blk/white primary spring Aaen blue secondary spring and for more lowend power a set of S58 weights.the stock S55s are ok and will get you more topend.
For a 400 to run right it HAS to be clutched to the power range of the pipe.
If you get the HPD kit let me know what parts are and I can tell you if they would work.If you get the HPD pipe you should be in good shape.

Dyno really is best low end? That's surprising. Actually felt like I lost some low end but gained a lot of mid. Mey butt dyno's never work. Could use better throttle response that'll get reeds for later. Don't want to change airbox since I do lot of water/mud and eventually snow.

That's the kit I picked up. And if you see what I mean, it mentions "w/hpd pipe" in title, and there's a box saying that in the pics, but no mention in the description. Should be here Thursday. Don't really make a difference to me if it has one. But make it a sweet deal if it does.
Now if its best to use the HPD pipe with the kit so they work better together than the dyno would, I'll pull the dyno and sell it. If dyno makes better low end and should tweak primary to work with it, I rather do that and sell hpd pipe. Granted I do high speed hill climb every now and then but I'll get over it when I'm crawling over stuff. Nor burning the belt in stupid thick mud.
Then again I guess I dont have to have low end. Long as it just stop being so boggy down load I'll be happy. I'm sure its runnig rich at the moment cuz seem to load up a little bit when Im screwing off at low speeds.

That kit will defiantly NOT work with a Dynoport pipe.It is for the aggressive kit for a HPD Trial pipe or a highly modded 250 Trailblazer.
You get that pipe of yours dialed in and it is the Boss on anything but topend power.THe Dport is good because it doesnt raise the RPM range much leaving you with more usable power.
What yr of Scrammy did you get?

Hm it does match the pic on the site. I just looked at the part number and saw it was for trail kit which figured wasn't that aggressive. Go figure its the kit with Agressive in its name. Even better! It's a 99.
So, I should just sell the pipe I have (I bought it 2 years ago used on ebay so don't make a difference to me. Or I might just put it back on the sport) and get there trail pipe, assuming that auction doesn't include one?
Or telling me to keep stock and adjust to pipe? Sorry if asking to much but better to ask and look dumb than to do and look dumber when it doesn't work. Any suggestions on weights and such? This buddy works as mechanic and local polaris dealer so can adjust it to whatever they have in stock. Could adjust to my current pipe and see how I like it and save for awhile to get rest of hpd set up. Or just put it on and see how she goes haha.

If you can get Polaris springs try a green with S58 weights with you pipe now(that spring is close to the Dalton blk/white)or if you can find a Polaris yellow that would be better.

Well got the kit and thru it in as it came. It's a BLAST. It'll wheelie with little effort and slide all over the place. Low end fills awesome. It would spin the tires on pavement holding the brakes a little.
