Outlaw 525, KTM 525 differences and IRS questions
Ok, so I have an 01 Raptor 660... I like it but it keeps breaking on me recently. I test drove a stock outlaw 525 and was impressed... and then I test drove an outlaw 525 with an exhaust and jetted and my god! I instantly fell in love.
Well, my dealer will sell my a brand new 08 Outlaw 525 for $6200. But only wants 4 something for the KTM witch is like an 07 or something. What are the differences in the KTM and the Outlaw? Does either handle better or worse etc. And I rode the 525 S when I test drove the outlaw... but I was told the IRS is a dog compared to it because of the IRS. So, I was just wondering about that to. And tips would be helpful, thanks.

Told by whom? The guy trying to sell the other one? If you ride on trails instead of a race track, the IRS will probably be better no matter what people say about it. I've never even seen a KTM and don't know where any dealers are, but two people I know who test rode the Outlaw on actual trails said it kicks @$$, and they don't even own a Polaris.

unless you are riding groomed sissy trails, than the IRS would be the way to go.
doesnt matter if you have a piped jetted cammed nitrous'd raptor 700 behind you, when he was to slow down and or swirve around rocks
and logs and ruts that you can just go right over with 11" stock clearance.. no chance of keeping up
IRS is a monster for the woods, if you race, and dont ride in the woods, get the solid rear axle.
Ive always wanted the IRS for this, because i ride in some hairy ****!

Yeah the KTM is a used one sitting in the used barn, they have about 30 quads in that barn alone. Does KTM make theres with IRS? or is it just Polaris on the 525?
EDIT: And no the dealer didnt tell me that, it was a buddy that told be that if I get an outlaw I have to go straight axle or ill lose all the quickness. I'll ask the dealer next time im down there to see what they will give me for my 660 and ill ask if its really that much slower.

No the KTM does not come in IRS just SRA and yes the SRA machines will be faster than the Outlaw IRS!
Not to tell you what to buy but I would take a good look at a Raptor 700R. The EFI makes it a pretty nice bike and a much more buildable one at that!

700r was my first option a year ago, but the 8000+ price tag when all said and done turned me away and to the 660r for 3500 lol. I have yet to see a reasonably priced 700r so untill that comes around then the 700r is out of the question.
But for $2000 less I can get the KTM, so I might do that. I just hope they will atleast give me $2000 for my raptor
EDIT: oh and yeah my riding would pretty much be all dirt roads and Ohio and WV trails. I would run it in a couple county fairs each year though.

I have both and the KTM is the superior machine for all but desert racing or VERY rough trail riding. I raced the 525 IRS for 1.5 years in XC and MX races both and have made the switch to the KTM 525 XC and am VERY glad that I did. The KTM is not as fatiguing in a 2 hr woods race, and handles substancially better. The brakes are so good that 1 finger on the fronts can literally throw you over the bars and I don't know how but this thing's intake/exhaust flows so well it doesn't even feel like the same engine! It is much snappier and the OHLINS shocks are great. All-in-all it was better stock than my $15,000 Outlaw for racing purposes... my $0.02
