Polaris Sportmans 700 EFI surging, flooding

Hi Gang, Just bought a 2004 Sportsman 700 EFI today, went for a ride and the quad surges and cuts out. It runs great at slow speeds and idle but when going down a logging road at a fast pace for a couple of minutes it starts to cut out and then surge. Just like in reverse with the button not pushed. I have read some other posts with the same problem but it seems they are all carb models. anyone have this problem with EFI? I looked at the air filter on the trail, looked clean. Fuel Pump / filter? air box lid? Muffler? Belt not lining up? any help would be great.
thanks
Geoff

welcome to the forum. it could be fuel pump related as some did have fuel pump braking down. does it act like its running out of gas when it acts up? maybe electronics could be to blame. does it only do it after its been run for awhile when its hot or does it do it cold as well?

Hi, thanks for the reply, it does act like it's running out of gas, then it backfires. It just happened after i was "ripping" down a forest road for the first time almost full throttle. however rides great at slow speeds.

Mine is doing the same thing. It did not start until i buried it in mud and water. The exhaust filled up and liquid locked. i replaced the plugs and changed the oil. Let me know how yours turned out.

Thanks

well it's been weird, I've gone for two rides since the last post and the first ride the problem came back half way up a hill but after i let it sit for a while it was great. I was even mud bogging in half the time. than yesterday I rode all afternoon with no problems. I think it was because i didn't have the throttle pinned up any hills. I am installing new fuel pump and filter nest week so hopefully that will solve everything. I'll let you know how it goes.
Geoff
