HFS....... My ass is redder than a fire truck.

So my dad and I went for a ride today in the beautiful N GA Mountains up on Rock creek and Tatum Lead ATV trails. We were about 10 miles in when we saw a little spur trail off to the right, so we decided to investigate. I back up so I could turn around and while i was waiting for my Dad I decided I wanted to do a little spin out. I held the front brake lever in and gassed it...

All of a sudden my 08' 800 starts smoking like holy hell and something felt like it locked up. I stopped immediately! When i gave it gas to start driving normal it starting clicking/rocking while i was moving. I tried all configurations, 2x4, awd, h, l, r.... Then i put it in neutral and and gave it gas and it felt like something was clicking/clinking in the engine....

I had to turn off the key, put it in neutral and have my Dad tow me 10 miles back to his house.... That's why I NEVER go in the woods by myself!

?????IS Did I tear the belt or did I possibly do some serious damage to something else?

Good thing is that it's only about 4 months old so it's still under warranty. I dropped it off at the dealer on my way home. Can't wait to see how that plays out..

Anyways, here's some pictures from today... Will post a video as soon as it's done uploading on Youtube

That sucks...BTW that brake lever is a 4 wheels, not just the fronts and power braking is hell on a machine. I'm sure you knew that though. Were you at least in low? lol (sorry I know it isn't funny)
Any visible damage? By the smoke sounds like at least the belt..I assume the smoke came from the clutch area and the cover snorkel area?

yeah I won't be powerbraking ever again!!!

The smoke seems like it was coming right from under the steering column on the right side, but hard to tell...

Could have been coming from the clutch housing snorkel. I'd say at a minimum you fried the belt. A well shredded belt can make alot of noise. Although the only ones I ever seen really shredded didn't happen from one instance or instantaneously. Not sure about the machine rocking though? That don't sound real good.
Hopefully someone who has made the same mistake and had the same results will chime in. Hope your dealer is cool or you had a good story for them.

well if you did smoke the belt im guessing they wont warranrty it unless they are a good dealer. how long did you do this break stance? you could have easierly over heated the belt and started to shread the belt. imo.

The belt would smoke blue and stink like a burned tire. My son's also spit out the cogs in the belt. It was quite a mess.

Well i admit this isn't the first time i've done a burnout by powerbraking...

This time i did it for maybe 5-6 seconds.

So if it is the belt and they don't warranty it, how much would it cost?

I might get them to change all the fluids while it's in there. I changed the oil for the first time today before i went riding.

I have 23hrs and 165 miles

Ahhh ha..that explains it....at least you admit it. I have to ask again, were you in low or high..come on give it up,lol.
Hopefully the dealer is cool.
Hard to say on cost due to labor cost differences and the fact that they won't just be replacing the belt. The belt retails for about $63 but the biggest expense is going to be labor changing the belt and for cleaning the crap out of the clutches and housing probably.
