So when it gets real cold my starter just whines and won't start the quad. No big deal just pull the cord right? Wrong!

When I pull the pull start it comes out with no resistance and doesn't do a darn thing for me.

Once pulled out it stays out until the temp goes above freezing and then it reels it self back up.

This 4-wheeler is sposed to plow my driveway so if it has cold weather problems it won't do me much good.

I really can't afford to have it serviced by the Polaris Bank so, is there a way to maybe regrease that cord system so this will not keep happening?

thanks for any advice.!

Hi, not sure about the pull start issue because i didn't try but that last couple cold days my atv wouldn't start either the start would just spin and if it did try to start it wouldn't run long or smoothly kinda like missing, what i did is charge the battery and she fired and ran like she usually does i have an 06 500 efi it might be worth a try

I have an 06 500 HO. It seems like no matter the battery charge it either wants to start or not. It is bitchy.
I went out to try to start it since the temps got about freezing today, started like a champ with the key. I was able to get some of the cord in but not all of it. I am sure it is just the grease that keeps freezing up on the pull starter, but I am not to mechanical so I was kinda looking for advice on what to look for. I still have to put my winch, plow mount and plow on so I figured I would bang it all out in one shot.

did you get water in the recoil so its freezing the cordout? trying using heat(like a hairdyer) onthe outside of the reecoil housing to warm it up to go back in.
