Swamp Lite sidewall repair

I cut the sidewall on rear Swamplite. Anyone have experience patching these? I don't think a tube would hold up without getting pinched.

I have ridden for a couple trips with a sidewall plug... You said it was a tear? I have seen 3 plugs in one sidewall in one hole and it held up but i wouldn't recommend it on a long trip

Use both , a indside patch with a tube for backup.

In general, sidewall damage is not supposed to be "fixable", at least from a strictly technical standpoint. On a car, it is illegal to repair sidewall damage (or so I've been told... never pulled out my handy law book to verify) because of the high re-failure rate.

That said, I would agree with TLC... if you are going to try to fix it, a patch AND a tube is probably your best bet.

Not to be mr. negative, but I wouldn't expect it to last long... I hope it does if you try it. I'd love to see a follow up after a few test runs if you do it.

I bet it holds up well, ATV tires hold what? 5 psi tops.

an inside patch of the proper type will hold a sidewall together. (have used them on big truck tires before) just make sure you clean the area real good and pretreat the crap out of it.

i've been running on a side plug for 3 months. havent lost any psi and i hit some hard trails. mostly rock. you'd be surprised what a well done plug could do.

Do you have a truck tire shop than can vulcanize the inside. That would fix it up well.

I was just about to suggest the same thing as Jeff did about vulcanize proceedjure , there use to be a few big tire centers in my hometown that could repair tires with small holes in the tread and sidewall of tire in the late 50's till the early 70's with great results ; however i don't know of anyones that do this anymore mainly because they make more profit selling new tire's now day's !

But like TLC , jchunn and eggenz7 i agree that the inside patch and tube would holdup for small holes but i don't know how good it would work on cut's in any area of a tire !...........

DavidXP Vulcalizing a tire is still used at all major tire centers and some full service stations use a simular proceedgure to patch tubeless tires for a permanent fix on the thread area of tires today , however it isn't done the same way the big tire centers did back in the late 50's to early 70's ; and they don't do it to the sidewall areas like they did back in the good old day's !

Just using the plug's you use today to repair a tire is really just a temperary emergency fix untill you can get to either a tire center or local full serve gas station and have it patched permanently , it required to remove the tire from the rim to do this and they will hold up very well if done right ; however what i was refiring to the Vulcanizing is with the tire off rim and is put in a machine that spin's the tire at a high enough speed to heat up the tire to the point that it actually begins to smoke , then stainless steel roller's squease the tire untill it turns inside out !

The they would use a wire brush to ruff up the spot where the hole is , then they apply a rubber cement and what is or was known as a hot patch that was stuck to the under side of a metal cap that had a fiber that looked like brake pad material ; then they would lite this material with a match that burn till the rubber patch would bond to the tire it's self making it as good as new !........

Never heard of that type of vulcanizing - guess we haven't got that technology yet.

They repair big truck and skidder tires around here using vulcanizing because it makes a permanent repair as good as the original tire. It can be expensive so might not be worth it on an ATV tire unless you know somebody that works at the tire center. But worth looking in to.
