the holding a high RPM sounds like an air leak somewhere. try spraying carb cleaner around any rubber boots and where any gaskets are

Well adjusted the idle on the machine and there doesn't seem to be a problem with that anymore. oldpolaristech what do you think? The machine starts easy without choking and purrs like a kitten while idling. Runs great in reverse. As soon as you hammer on the throttle in High it cuts in and out when accelarating. When you let off the throttle it kind of pops as it slows down. We've checked the coilpack and changed the plugs and that's all good had a good glow on the indicators. New air filter and cleaned air box out. Airbox gasket seems a little worn don't know if that would be it though. We cleaned out the whole carb except the needle and spring area can't really figure that part out? Also don't really know how to check the choke either, when you turn the choke on it really runs bad. Also, seems to be some kind of vapor/fluidy material coming from the smaller tube that goes to the airbox to the engine. We're running out of ideas. Smells a little like gas/exhaust more that it should any ideas anyone?

I had the same problem with my 02 700.
Ended up having a leak between the carb and jug.
The intake manifold had a crack in it. You can check that by spraying starting fuild around the manifold if it idles up thats your problem.
Also make sure there no water sitting in the bowl.
At one time i had to drain it 2 to 3 times before it cleared up.

Alright, this is getting old. Checked what BPM said about the carb boot, and he was right it was cracked. Replaced it. Thanks! Now it still does has a problem.......You can start up like a champ and idle great, rev it in nuetral and sounds like a million bucks. Go in reverse still runs great. Take off slowly and it runs good until throttle hard and it cuts out or if I'm at a dead stop and punch it, it will cut out. I do notice the oil level is quite high and a little watery/maybe gasey? So far I've changed the fuel filter, carb boot, checked coil pack, replaced spark plug wire, drained gas, changed plugs, cleaned carb, new air filter, new gas. Where do I turn next, I keep thinking this will fix it and I just find it was one of the many pieces of the problem puzzle! What should I do next? I was thinking that maybe the carb go gummed up do to the boot and caused gas to back up into the oil and now it needs an oil change and the carb cleaned again? Any insight would be great!!!! All the information you guys have given has been great. Plus a lot of good learning along the way. Thanks!

Got gas in the oil reservoir.... Gotta do an oil change. I had a cracked carb boot, does anyone thing I could have gotten the carb all gummed up that's why the gas overfilled into the oil? I cleaned carb already and that looks good, just hoping with an oil change things will clear up I guess. Is there anything else I should do to remedy this problem?

thanks

Someone aught to link these posts...not sure how to, but I've posted the same issue on my 04 700. Came on all of the sudden. Cleaned the carb, but need to pick up new plugs. Any recommendations? I had Champions in there, but to be honest, I like NGK.

My plugs were badly carboned. My compression is good, 152 both cylinders. How can you tell if you have a Ducati coil?

I had the same problems with my 04 600. After changing many parts, including the carb, I installed the updated coil, stator, rectifier and numerous other parts that come with the upgrade kit. As OPT stated earlier, the ducati coils were a real problem on these. The part number is 2202603 . The cheapest one I found was at motorsportssupercenter.com, $394.00. This took care of my problems. Hope this helps!
