Opinions on what you all prefer in tire shapes. Pro's & con's on rounded tire shapes over the flat, wide ones. Asking cause I figure this is a good starting point on choosing new rubber.

Well to me my choice would be flat ones I find they handel better and you have more of a contact area. get a good 4ply tire too but some 2ply are pretty stiff too.
and plus they look cooler too. Have a good one :) |
Skinny tires dig better, wider tires get more floation and that not always good especially in snow.
Look at it this way, have you ever seen a farm tractor with wide tires...no, the reason is skinny tires get more bite. 2000 SCRAMBLER 400 2X4 SCRAMDADDY400 |
in the rear you want a flat profile because they have more contact area. in front you want a round profile because they dig in better and wont float around as much as a flat profile front tire. (just ask someone who has the old bandit fronts)

Also, rounder profile tires in front will steer with less effort than flatter ones if they have similar tread patterns. You can prove this for yourself by just letting some air out of the tires you have & puttering around the yard. Try it again with them overinflated a bit & you will see what I mean.

rounder tires will have a smaller patch on the ground and give you more stability at "high speed". That's why when I change my tires, I'll be getting round ones.
Square tires look better. |
